The Samsung Galaxy Tab Active5
One device for the whole route.
The Tab Active5 is the tablet going onto buses today. Current Android, a faster processor, and more memory, still IP68 sealed and MIL-STD-810H rugged for the back of a bus. It runs the route, the paperwork, and the apps your district already uses, all from one screen in the cab.

This issue is all about the tablet, because it is the part of the platform your drivers touch every single day. Here is what it puts in their hands.
A cleaner experience, start to finish
The driver app has been rebuilt for this device. Bigger touch targets, fewer taps to get anywhere, and a home screen that shows the driver what is next instead of making them go looking for it. New and substitute drivers pick it up faster.

The apps your district already uses
This is the one drivers notice first. Because the Tab Active5 runs open Android, the apps your team already depends on live right on the tablet home screen. Red Rover, UKG, RTA Fleet, and others open with one tap and hand the driver straight back when they are done. One device in the cab instead of two.
Bus conduct reports, spoken instead of typed
Drivers tap the student, tap the behavior, and hit Speak to dictate the detail instead of thumb-typing it. The report routes to the school office with the bus, route, and time already attached. Filing in the moment while the details are fresh is often the difference between a report that gets written and one that does not.
Seating charts on the tablet
Build and publish a chart for each route and run. Drivers see exactly who sits where, and the header tells you at a glance how many students are assigned and how many are not.
Training, right on the device
Short, task-based videos live on the tablet: logging in, running an inspection, selecting a route, working with students. Drivers pull up a refresher in the seat where they do the work, and new hires ramp without waiting for a classroom session.
And no more SD cards
Turn-by-turn navigation runs on a new engine with the maps in the cloud. No more swapping cards in the yard, and no wondering whether a bus is running last year's maps. Every tablet stays current because it pulls the maps itself.
Locking or non-locking, your call
The tablet sits in a powered cradle that charges it while the bus runs. Two options, depending on how your yard operates.
Locking
The tablet stays with the bus, keyed and secured in the cradle.
Non-locking
Drivers take the tablet at the end of a shift and dock it again in the morning.

How districts are getting there
The Tab Active5 goes in with new installs today. If your buses are running older equipment, the usual path is an early renewal, which lets a district move to current hardware ahead of the term ending rather than waiting it out. Your sales representative can walk you through what that would look like for your fleet and your contract.
